Corvus - the Crow Crater - the Cup Virgo - the Maiden Libra - the Scales Leo - the Lion Coma Bernices - Bernice's Hair Canes Venatici - the Hunting Dogs Bootes - the Herdsman Corona Borealis - the Northern Crown

Typical view 2 hours after sunset looking due South. A fist at arms length is 10 degrees across.

Follow the arc of the Great Bear's tail eastwards and you will come to the bright, orangish star Arcturus (literally the "Keeper of the Bear") which belongs to Boötes the Herdsman. Just to the East of this figure is a small diamond encrusted tiara - Corona Borealis or the Northern Crown. The three zodiacal signs of Leo, Virgo and Libra all straddle the ecliptic and low down in the South are Corvus the Crow and Crater the Cup. May is a great time for galaxy hunting in Virgo and Coma Berenices.
